Russian drone hits Estonian power plant

A drone believed to have come from Russia has entered Estonian airspace and crashed into the chimney of a local power plant, authorities said. The incident occurred early on Wednesday, according to Estonia’s internal security service, which reported no injuries or damage to infrastructure.

At the same time, neighbouring Latvia reported airspace violations involving two drones, one thought to originate from Russia and the other from Belarus. Officials said the exact origin of the devices has not yet been confirmed.

The incidents coincided with a Ukrainian drone strike that set fire to oil facilities at the Russian port of Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea, a key export hub located about 25 kilometres from the Estonian border.
