Denmark’s king asks Frederiksen to form government
Denmark has entered negotiations on a new governing coalition, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen moving a step closer to securing a third mandate, Bloomberg reports.
She has won the backing of several party leaders to lead talks on forming a government after a tightly contested parliamentary election.
King Frederik X formally tasked her with forming a cabinet following a series of consultations with political leaders in Copenhagen.
However, the situation remains difficult – although the Social Democrats campaigned on stability and emerged as the largest party, they failed to secure a clear majority with their traditional left-wing allies.
