IRGC navy commander killed in Iran attack

Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has been killed in an attack in the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, the Times of Israel reports, citing an Israeli official.

According to the source, he was responsible for operations related to the possible closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of the world’s oil supply passes.

The circumstances of the attack remain unclear and the information has not been independently confirmed. Neither Iran nor the Israeli military has so far commented officially on the incident.

The report comes amid the ongoing war in the Middle East, where the security situation has sharply deteriorated in recent months.
