Secret services intervene against Tisza, Magyar warns

Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar has called on the prosecutor general to investigate an alleged intelligence operation against his Tisza party. He was responding to findings by the investigative outlet Direkt36, which suggest that security services may have intervened in the political contest.

Magyar claims the police were used for political purposes when they raided two IT specialists linked to the opposition in 2025 and seized their equipment on what he describes as trumped-up charges.

According to the report, the investigation initially centred on allegations of child pornography, but no evidence was found. Instead, information emerged pointing to attempts to hack into the Tisza party’s IT system. The domestic intelligence service is also said to have been involved.

The government denies the allegations, saying the IT specialists under investigation had suspicious foreign contacts, including links to Ukraine.

The prosecutor general’s office said it was already investigating a possible attack on the party’s IT system.
