Iran allows tanker passage in Hormuz amid talks with US

US President Donald Trump said Iran had allowed ten oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz as a goodwill gesture in ongoing negotiations, describing it as a ‘gift’ from Tehran.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump initially referred to eight ships before saying the number was ten. He said the vessels were large oil tankers sailing under the Pakistani flag. The White House did not immediately provide further details.

The remarks come as Washington presses Iran to agree to a deal ensuring free movement through the strategic Strait of Hormuz while addressing its nuclear programme. Trump has previously suggested that Iran made a significant energy concession, but gave no specifics.

‘They gave us a gift and the gift arrived today and it was a very big gift, worth a tremendous amount of money,’ he told reporters.
