Afghan asylum seeker rapes 12-year-old girl in Britain

A court in Warwick, England, has sentenced Ahmad Mulakhil, 23, to 15 years in prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in Nuneaton. The offence took place on 22 July last year near the town centre. Police said the perpetrator is an Afghan national who has applied for asylum in the UK.

According to the court’s findings, Mulakhil met the girl in a park before taking her to a secluded spot, where he raped her and recorded part of the attack. He later took her to a shop, where she managed to escape and raise the alarm. Police identified and arrested him within two days.

A jury found him guilty of rape of a child under 13, kidnapping, two counts of sexual assault and making indecent images. He was acquitted on one count. In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a restraining order and further protective measures.

Police said the girl’s testimony had played a crucial role and urged victims of sexual violence not to remain silent.
