Poland extends border checks with Germany and Lithuania

Poland has decided to extend temporary border controls with Germany and Lithuania for a further six months, until 1 October. The interior ministry announced the move, saying it was primarily linked to continued pressure from illegal migration and the need to strengthen the country’s internal security.

The controls were initially introduced in July, with Warsaw following several European Union states that have reinstated border checks in response to the migration situation.

According to reports, the measure is intended to improve oversight of cross-border movement and reduce risks associated with illegal entry into the country.
