Attacks near Bushehr raise nuclear accident risk, Rosatom warns

The situation at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant is deteriorating, according to Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev, with repeated attacks near the site increasing risks to nuclear safety.

This is the third incident in the past ten days, although the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has not recorded any damage to the reactor or radiation leaks. Tensions are nevertheless rising around the facility, which is a key element of Iran’s energy infrastructure.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called for condemnation of the attacks and appealed to the international community to send a clear signal that such actions are unacceptable.

Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Moscow expects a stronger response from the IAEA.

At the same time, Rosatom confirmed that some staff have already been evacuated, with 163 returning to Russia and further groups expected to follow.
