14-year-old runs for Vermont governor

Fourteen-year-old Dean Roy has made history as the first candidate under 18 to appear on the ballot in a regular election for governor of Vermont. His political ambitions began only recently, following his experience as a legislative messenger in the state legislature.

Although he admits he does not expect to win, he hopes to motivate young people to become more involved in public life. Vermont’s constitution, which does not set a minimum age for governor, allows him to run.

At the same time, his candidacy raises questions – some experts point to constitutional interpretation and the practical unpreparedness of such a young candidate, AP News reports.

Governor Phil Scott, while praising his commitment, has questioned his experience.

Roy, however, says age should not be a factor. He sees housing affordability as a key campaign issue and believes he can disrupt the established political system.
