Reform UK leads polls, London responds with big protest
On Saturday, London saw a significant public mobilisation against the growing influence of extremism. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in a march organised by the Together Alliance, with estimates suggesting that as many as 30,000 people may have taken part. The demonstration was one of the largest of its kind in recent years.
Protesters mainly focused on criticism of the Reform UK party and its leader Nigel Farage, who according to polls is leading in political support. Migration was also a prominent issue, as anti-immigration rhetoric is one of the main pillars of the party.
Foreign symbols, including pro-Palestinian and Iranian flags, also appeared at the march, suggesting a link to wider geopolitical themes. At the same time, representatives of other parties, such as Green Party leader Zach Polanski, also joined in. The protest thus reflects both the increasing polarisation of British politics and the pressure on Keir Starmer's government.
