Israeli strike kills three journalists, army says
An Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon has killed three journalists, prompting strong reactions from Lebanese officials and international organisations. The victims include reporter Ali Shaib, journalist Fatima Ftouni and cameraman Mohammed Ftouni. According to local media, their vehicle was hit by a missile.
The Israeli army said Shaib had been identified as a member of Hezbollah’s intelligence unit and was the intended target. It has not commented on the other casualties or provided supporting evidence. Hezbollah has rejected the claims as unfounded.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned the attack as a violation of international law and stressed that journalists must be protected during conflicts. Reporters Without Borders also warned that media safety in the region is deteriorating. The incident comes amid a broader escalation of violence that has killed several journalists in Lebanon and neighbouring areas since late February, Reuters reports.
