Netanyahu orders expansion of buffer zone in Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he had ordered the army to further expand the existing security buffer zone in southern Lebanon and vowed to fundamentally change the security situation there.

‘I have just ordered the further expansion of the existing security buffer zone. We are determined to change the situation in the north in a fundamental way,’ he said in a video statement from the Northern Command.

He said the decision was aimed at strengthening Israel’s position along the northern border amid ongoing tensions, where cross-border hostilities have raised fears of a wider regional escalation.
