NATO shoots down another Iranian missile over Turkey
A ballistic missile fired from Iran entered Turkish airspace and was shot down by NATO air defences, Ankara has said, marking the fourth such incident since the start of the US–Israeli war against Iran.
Tehran did not immediately comment on the latest incident but has repeatedly denied targeting Turkey or being responsible for similar cases in the past.
NATO confirmed it had intercepted a missile heading towards Turkish territory and stressed its readiness to defend member states. Turkey’s defence ministry did not specify the intended target. The country hosts several significant military installations, including the Incirlik air base, where US and allied personnel are stationed, and the Kürecik radar station linked to the Patriot air defence system.
Since the start of the conflict, Iran has carried out strikes across parts of the Middle East, targeting oil infrastructure and bases used by US forces. The Turkish military said it was taking all necessary measures to protect its territory.
The incident comes after weekend talks among regional leaders aimed at ending the conflict and restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Ankara has repeatedly called for a halt to the fighting and has sought to position itself as a mediator.
