Zelenskyy warns €90bn package key to Europe’s security
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy met EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas on the sidelines of the Bucharest summit, with a blocked €90 billion EU loan high on the agenda, Breaking the News reported.
Zelenskyy said the funds were crucial not only for Ukraine’s defence but also for Europe’s wider security. He argued that the package would send a clear signal to Russia about the futility of continuing the war.
Kallas replied that she could not confirm with certainty whether the €90 billion loan to Kyiv would be disbursed.
The package has been blocked by Hungary and Slovakia amid a dispute over the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine. The European Commission is therefore exploring alternative ways to release the funds without requiring unanimous approval from all member states.
