Pezeshkian: Iran willing to end war, but seeks guarantees
European Council President António Costa spoke by telephone with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, urging him to ease tensions in the region.
Iran, Pezeshkian said, is willing to end the war with Israel and the United States, but only if it receives guarantees that the conflict will not recur.
He stressed the need to return to diplomacy, respect international law and ensure freedom of navigation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Costa also criticised Iran’s attacks on neighbouring countries, describing them as unacceptable. He said it was imperative that all parties move towards de-escalation and prevent further violence. He also drew attention to civilian casualties, including the Minab school incident, and called for the protection of civilians and infrastructure.
