Kadyrov's forces announce readiness to intervene in Iran
Chechen military units have declared their readiness to join the conflict in Iran on the side of the Iranian armed forces in the event of a US ground invasion, according to Iran’s Press TV.
Forces loyal to Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov have described the ongoing confrontation between the US, Israel and Iran as a religious war, framing any potential involvement as jihad.
The conflict has been underway since 28 February, following the collapse of nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington. Iran’s long-time supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is reported to have died, along with other senior figures and civilians.
Iran has launched dozens of waves of missile and drone attacks on Israeli and US targets in the Persian Gulf region in response to earlier strikes. There are also reports of a possible US ground offensive after the failure of the air campaign.
The possible involvement of Ukrainian forces has also been raised. Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has claimed that Kyiv sent experts to the region to support US and Israeli operations. Tehran has condemned the alleged actions in a letter to UN leadership.
