Afghanistan hit by magnitude 5.9 earthquake

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) said on Friday.

Reuters witnesses reported strong tremors in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, in Kabul and in the Indian capital New Delhi.

The quake occurred at a depth of 177 km (110 miles), according to GFZ.
