Axios: US, Iran discuss 45-day ceasefire

The United States, Iran and a group of regional mediators are negotiating the terms of a possible 45-day ceasefire that could lead to a permanent end to the conflict, Axios reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the talks.

According to the proposal, the agreement would have two phases. The first envisages a temporary 45-day ceasefire during which the parties would negotiate a permanent end to the war.

The second phase would bring a final agreement to end the conflict. The ceasefire could be extended if negotiations required more time.

The report has not been independently confirmed by Reuters, and neither the White House nor the US State Department had immediate comment.

Tensions in the region persist. US President Donald Trump said Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday evening or face attacks on critical infrastructure.
