Romanian court lifts restrictions on the Tate brothers

A Romanian court on Monday lifted all precautionary measures against controversial influencers Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who are under investigation on suspicion of human trafficking and other offences.

The brothers were arrested in late 2022 and initially spent months in custody. The court later commuted the measures to house arrest and then to regular reporting to police. The latest ruling also lifted that obligation. The decision is final and cannot be appealed.

The defence argues that the case was built on disputed evidence. In 2024, the appeals court refused to send the brothers to trial and returned the case to prosecutors, ruling some of the evidence inadmissible.

However, the investigation continues and a new case was added in 2024 involving allegations of forming an organised group, trafficking in minors and money laundering.

The Tate brothers deny the allegations. They are also subject to an arrest warrant in Britain and are due to be extradited once proceedings in Romania are completed.
