Beirut rocked by explosions in intensified Israeli strikes

Israel has carried out its most intensive bombing campaign yet in Lebanon since the start of the war with Hezbollah last month, a Lebanese security source told Reuters. A series of explosions was also heard in Beirut, with thick smoke billowing overhead.

At least 12 people were killed in one of the strikes on a busy district of the Lebanese capital. Reuters witnesses said wounded and bloodied residents abandoned their cars in traffic and tried to reach the nearest hospitals on foot.
