Israel Orders Karish Gas Field Restart After Ceasefire

Israel’s energy ministry has ordered Energean to resume operations at the Karish gas field in the Mediterranean, following a ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

The platform has been shut since 28 February, when the conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran began. The suspension was driven by security concerns linked to the hostilities.

Energean said it had received instructions from the ministry permitting a safe restart of production and a resumption of operations. The company added that it was working to bring output back online in line with its operating procedures.

Markets responded positively to the announcement, with Energean’s shares rising 2.4 per cent to 851 pence in London.

The restart at Karish follows the resumption of production at Israel’s Leviathan gas field, which came back online last week after a hiatus of about a month caused by the conflict.

Israel is now gradually restoring key energy projects that were disrupted during the fighting.
