Reuters: Trump Weighs Pulling Some Troops From Europe

US President Donald Trump is considering reducing the number of US troops in Europe, Reuters reported. The move reflects his dissatisfaction with NATO allies, particularly over their handling of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as a lack of progress in his plans to retake Greenland.

According to a White House source, no decision has yet been made and the Pentagon has not been instructed to prepare a concrete plan. The official did not specify which countries might be affected or how many troops might be withdrawn if Trump decides to pursue the idea.

The discussions suggest a significant deterioration in relations between the US and its European allies, which diplomats say are at their worst level since NATO’s inception. Trump has also long criticized allies for low defense spending.

There are currently more than 80,000 US troops in Europe, mainly in Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
