White House Unveils Design for 76-Metre Arch
The White House has unveiled a design for a 76-metre arch that Donald Trump wants to build in Washington. Writing on Truth Social, the president said it would be "the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World". He added that his administration had already forwarded the project to the Commission of Fine Arts, which is expected to consider it next week.
If approved, the monument would be taller than both the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial. Renderings suggest a prominent structure featuring the golden inscription "One Nation Under God", a pair of golden eagles, a winged Statue of Liberty and lions on a pedestal.
The BBC notes that this is not the president’s only controversial project. His plan for a White House ballroom is already before a court, which has put construction on hold.
