Trump Threatens Naval Blockade of Strait of Hormuz
US President Donald Trump, in a post on Truth Social, accused Iran of obstructing the Strait of Hormuz, saying this is fuelling global tensions and threatening international shipping.
He said Tehran had reneged on a commitment to keep the key shipping route open and may have deployed mines in the area, deterring shipping companies. As a result, the United States will move forward with a naval blockade of the strait and inspect vessels cooperating with Iran.
At the same time, Trump said that while negotiations with Iran had made progress on several issues, they had failed on a key point, the nuclear program. He stressed that the United States would not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
He described the situation as “global blackmail” and warned that US forces were prepared to intervene if Iran launched any attacks.
