Netanyahu to Hold Talks With Lebanese President Aoun

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is due to hold talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Thursday, Israeli Science and Technology Minister Gila Gamliel said.

She described the planned meeting as the first contact after years without dialogue between the two countries. “This step could eventually lead to prosperity,” Gamliel told Army Radio.

The announcement came hours after US President Donald Trump suggested on social media that Israeli and Lebanese leaders should engage in talks, although he did not specify whom he meant.

Following Trump’s remarks, several media outlets reported that the Lebanese president was unaware of any planned contact.

Earlier this week, Israeli and Lebanese representatives met in Washington with US support in what officials described as the highest-level meeting between the two sides to date.

The developments come amid reports of a possible ceasefire in Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group.
