Ukraine Welcomes US Talks, Urges Tougher Russia Sanctions

Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko described recent talks in the United States as positive and called for stronger support for Ukraine.

Following meetings with US officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, she stressed the need to maintain and tighten sanctions against Russia, arguing that this is key to weakening Moscow and preventing sanctions evasion.

At the same time, she said the atmosphere of the talks had been more constructive than in the past. She also pointed to progress in economic cooperation, particularly through a joint investment fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction, which has already approved its first projects.

The prime minister stressed that Ukraine needs security guarantees before any peace agreement. She also welcomed support from the G7 and said political changes in Hungary could help unblock further EU sanctions.
