Iran Poised to Regroup During Ceasefire

Western military intelligence assesses that Iran has mitigated the impact of US and Israeli attacks on its weapons systems and command structure through extensive pre-conflict preparation, while retaining the capacity to respond if the ceasefire fails.

The country suffered significant damage to its infrastructure and lost several senior officials. However, planning prevented the destruction of key missile and drone capabilities and enabled an effective military response, according to sources familiar with the assessments.

The findings present a more nuanced picture than claims by US President Donald Trump that Iran was ‘destroyed’ and that the US had achieved all its military objectives. Intelligence officials instead suggest Tehran may use the ceasefire period to make further preparations.

European and US sources say Iran retains a stockpile of long-range missiles and thousands of drones. The dispersal of launchers across the country, combined with their movement between sites, makes them difficult to target and destroy.
