Russia Welcomes Extension of US Waiver for Oil Sales

Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy to Russian President Vladimir Putin, said the extension of a US waiver allowing countries to purchase sanctioned Russian offshore oil will cover an additional 100 million barrels.

According to Dmitriev, the two consecutive exemptions now apply to a total of 200 million barrels of oil. The waiver has been extended for another month.

Dmitriev made the remarks on the social network Telegram, saying the extension had faced “active political opposition”.

He also noted that he had taken part in negotiations in the United States on 9 April, where he met representatives of President Donald Trump’s administration before the previous waiver expired on that date.
