Netherlands Activates First Phase of Energy Crisis Plan

The Dutch government will activate the first phase of its energy crisis plan on Monday, ANP reported on Saturday, citing government sources. It will be the first time the plan has been used since it was introduced during the energy crisis following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The activation of the first phase indicates a disruption in the fuel market, although the country is not yet facing an imminent shortage. At this stage, authorities will closely monitor developments in energy markets, while the government and industry prepare for a possible deterioration.

The Dutch government did not immediately comment on the report. Prime Minister Rob Jetten said on Friday that the cabinet would present measures on Monday to offset rising energy prices. The package is expected to include tax relief for car owners, but not fuel tax cuts.
