Iran’s President Calls for Diplomacy but Distrusts Washington

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has called for a diplomatic solution to tensions with the United States, while openly acknowledging deep mistrust of Washington. Tehran, he said, should use all rational means to de-escalate the conflict.

His remarks come as a two-week ceasefire between the two sides is nearing its end.

Planned talks in Islamabad remain uncertain, with Iran yet to confirm whether it will send a delegation. A second round of negotiations also appears unlikely, amid what Tehran describes as “irrational” US demands and shifting positions.

Tensions are further heightened by developments in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has tightened control over shipping, while the United States continues to blockade Iranian ports. Both sides accuse each other of violating the ceasefire.
