Trump Confirms US Delegation Heading to Pakistan for Iran Talks
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that Vice-President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and adviser Jared Kushner had traveled to Islamabad to prepare for negotiations with Iran. Speaking to the New York Post, Trump also rejected Tehran's claims that it would not participate in the latest round of talks.
"We're supposed to have the talks", Trump said, dismissing doubts that the negotiations could fall apart. "So I would assume at this point nobody’s playing games." He added that the delegation was heading to Islamabad that evening.
Trump also indicated openness to a direct meeting with Iranian leadership. "I have no problem meeting them", he told the Post. "If they want to meet, and we have some very capable people, but I have no problem meeting them."
At the heart of the negotiations, Trump made clear, is a demand that Iran abandon its pursuit of nuclear weapons, adding that the country had the potential to prosper if it met that condition. "Otherwise, a wonderful country - it truly could be", he reflected.
