Republicans Float Maxwell Pardon for Epstein Answers
Some members of the US House of Representatives Oversight Committee have expressed support for a presidential pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell, arguing it could persuade her to cooperate with the investigation into financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The committee's Republican chairman, James Comer, confirmed the internal debate.
Maxwell refused to give testimony in February, invoking her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. She is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for her role in the sexual abuse of minors orchestrated by Epstein.
Democrats are firmly opposed to the idea. Congressman Robert Garcia described the clemency discussions as outrageous.
President Donald Trump has previously said he would consider a pardon, but no decision has been announced.
