Muslim Mob Attacks Christian Cemetery in Lahore
In the Pakistani city of Lahore, the news agency Idea reported that a Christian cemetery, which also serves as a place of worship, was violently attacked. According to human rights organisation The Voice Society, a group of around nine Muslims went on a rampage in the compound after a clash between the son of the cemetery’s caretaker and a group of young men.
The dispute reportedly arose after the men insulted Christian women and played vulgar music.
The situation quickly escalated, with the attackers storming the cemetery, destroying graves and crosses and assaulting members of the caretaker’s family. One person suffered stab wounds, while another was seriously injured after being struck on the head. A woman was also assaulted and subjected to beatings and humiliation.
Police arrested four suspects after the incident and said investigations are ongoing. However, the organization criticized the fact that not all offences, including the desecration of graves and attacks on women, were fully reflected in the charges.
