EU Opens Mandelson Probe Over Epstein Links
The European Anti-Fraud Office has formally opened an investigation into former British politician and former EU commissioner Peter Mandelson. According to available information, the case concerns his contacts with Jeffrey Epstein.
The office confirmed the launch of the case but said it would not provide further details because of the ongoing investigation. It said this was standard procedure to protect the confidentiality of the process and any possible subsequent legal action.
Mandelson was a prominent figure in the Labour Party and also served as EU trade commissioner.
In February, the European authority said it was reviewing his case, but it has only now moved to a formal investigation.
Mandelson lost his post as British ambassador to the US after leaked emails revealed his links to Epstein. His lawyers have not yet commented on the matter.
