Drone Debris in Romania Raises NATO Security Concerns
Romania has recorded another incident linked to the war in Ukraine after drone debris was found in the city of Galati following a night-time attack. For the first time, falling debris also caused material damage, hitting an electricity pole and part of a house.
Although no one was injured, authorities immediately evacuated the surrounding area because of the risk of an explosion. According to the Romanian Ministry of Defence, the incident represents a serious security breach that threatens not only Romania but also the wider NATO area.
Allies also responded to the incident, with British Eurofighter Typhoon jets monitoring the situation from the air, while residents in the neighboring region were warned.
At the same time, Bucharest is strengthening its defenses. A new US-developed Merops artificial intelligence system is expected to be deployed soon to help protect the Danube region.
