Trump Cancels Pakistan Trip by Envoys as Iran Talks Stall

The planned US diplomatic mission to Pakistan will no longer take place. President Donald Trump canceled the trip of his envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, who had been expected to travel to Islamabad for talks on Iran, according to Fox News and Reuters.

Trump said he saw no reason to send the delegation on an 18-hour flight “to sit around and wait”, adding that “the Iranians can call us anytime they want”. The talks had been intended as part of broader efforts to reduce tensions and preserve the fragile ceasefire.

Iran had presented its conditions for ending the conflict through Pakistani mediation, but Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi made clear that no direct meeting with US representatives was planned. He said Tehran would not accept Washington’s “maximalist demands”, particularly regarding the nuclear program.

The cancellation raises fresh questions about the direction of US diplomacy in the region and may signal either a shift in Washington’s approach or further complications in preparing negotiations.
