Gunman at White House Event Sought to Target Trump Administration Members
A 31-year-old suspect, Cole Allen of California, was arrested following a shooting at a White House event attended by US President Donald Trump and journalists. According to CBS News sources, he told investigators he had intended to target members of the Trump administration.
Washington Metropolitan Police interim chief Jeff Carroll said on Sunday night that the attacker was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and several knives. No cabinet members were injured, while a Secret Service agent wearing a bulletproof vest sustained minor injuries.
A CBS source within the police said that when asked about his intended targets, Allen referred only to “administration officials” and did not specifically mention President Trump.
The suspect was detained at the scene. Trump later posted an image on Truth Social showing Allen lying on the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents have also begun searching his home in Torrance, California.
