Blanche Says Suspect Targeted Officials, No Iran Link Identified
US authorities believe the suspect in the shooting linked to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner targeted administration officials, including President Donald Trump. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said this in an interview with NBC News.
Investigators said the man is believed to have travelled by train from Los Angeles through Chicago to Washington. He is thought to have acquired two firearms in recent years, and documents have been found that may indicate his motives. Authorities believe he acted alone and has not cooperated with investigators.
Blanche confirmed that the suspect is due to appear in federal court on Monday. He is expected to face charges including assault on a federal officer, use of a firearm during a violent crime and attempted killing of a federal officer. Investigators have found no evidence so far of any links to Iran, he added.
