Trump Says Iran Can Approach US for Talks on Ending Conflict
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran has the option of turning to the United States if it wants to negotiate an end to the conflict between the two countries.
“If they want to talk, they can come to us or call us. You know, there is a telephone. We have nice, secure lines,” he said in an interview with Fox News.
Trump also acknowledged that peace efforts have encountered difficulties. He cancelled a planned trip to Pakistan by his envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, reducing prospects for negotiations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi did travel to Islamabad, but without US participation.
Trump added that he was also working to broker a solution to the war in Ukraine. He said he had “good talks” with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“We’re working on the situation between Russia and Ukraine and we hope we can resolve it,” Trump said.
