Hilton Hotel Defends Security Record After Gala Shooting

The Washington Hilton hotel has said that all strict protocols set by the US Secret Service were followed during Saturday night's shooting, in which an armed man broke through security at a dinner attended by President Donald Trump.

The suspect, Cole Allen, got past a checkpoint on the floor above the main ballroom and fired a shotgun, wounding a Secret Service agent. The hotel stressed that security measures had been coordinated with multiple agencies, including the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.

The incident has raised questions about the effectiveness of security arrangements at events involving a head of state.

Allen is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, facing charges of shooting and assaulting a federal agent.
