US Pledges $100m to Repair Chernobyl Shelter
The United States will contribute $100m to repair the shelter covering the Chernobyl nuclear plant reactor destroyed in the 1986 accident, after a Russian drone struck the structure's dome.
Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal made the announcement, noting that total repair costs are estimated at around $540m.
The damage occurred last February when a drone struck the dome, which is designed to contain residual radioactive material. Funding for repairs was discussed with international partners at a recent conference.
The project is considered critical for nuclear safety not only in Ukraine but across the wider region.
