Pentagon Reveals Iran War Has Cost US $25bn So Far
The war against Iran has cost the United States around $25bn so far, according to the Pentagon, which provided the first official estimate of the conflict's costs.
Most of the spending has gone on munitions, though it is unclear whether the figure includes future infrastructure reconstruction costs. For comparison, the amount is similar to NASA's annual budget.
The conflict also has a strong political dimension. Democrats are linking its costs to rising prices and falling living standards ahead of upcoming elections. Support for the war among Americans is declining, with only around a third of the public currently approving of it.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has defended the cost, saying the goal is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and has rejected the opposition's criticism.
