Trump to Receive Briefing on New Iran Strike Plans
US President Donald Trump is to receive a briefing on new military plans against Iran prepared by Central Command, according to Axios. The proposal reportedly outlines a “short and strong” wave of strikes that could also target infrastructure.
The plans come three weeks after the start of a fragile ceasefire in the conflict, which began in late February with US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
Tehran has responded with attacks on Israel and Gulf states hosting US bases. The fighting has killed thousands of people and displaced millions. The US president has previously raised the possibility of striking civilian infrastructure.
Among the options under consideration is an operation to control parts of the Strait of Hormuz in an effort to restore shipping, which has been severely disrupted. The strait is critical to around one-fifth of global oil and gas supplies.
Another scenario involves special forces targeting enriched uranium stockpiles. Washington expects the pressure to push Iran toward greater flexibility in nuclear talks.
