Bus Plunges into the Seine near Paris After Accident

A bus and a car ended up in the River Seine in Juvisy-sur-Orge, near Paris, on Thursday after a traffic accident that prompted a major emergency response.

According to the prosecutor's office, the bus left the road under circumstances that remain unclear and fell into the river near a bridge, taking a parked car with it.

"The driver and three other persons were on the bus. All were rescued", the Évry prosecutor's office said. It added that police had opened an investigation on suspicion of unintentional bodily harm.

The prefecture deployed 16 fire engines, 34 firefighters, 60 police officers and a river brigade. A helicopter and a drone were also used in the operation. The bus remained fully submerged near the bridge, and witnesses reported that several vessels were still in the area at around 11 a.m.

Several bus routes were diverted after the accident and are temporarily not serving Juvisy station.
