Ukraine's EU Bid Stalled by Magyar's Minority Demands

Hungary's incoming prime minister Peter Magyar has hinted that Hungary will not change its stance on Ukraine without concrete concessions, Bloomberg reports. Speaking in Brussels, he stressed that Kyiv must expand the rights of the Hungarian minority, particularly in the areas of language and education. His conditions replicate demands previously pushed by Viktor Orban.

The EU would like to accelerate accession negotiations with Ukraine, but Magyar's stance could slow the process. At the same time, he has declared his desire to improve relations with Kyiv and plans to meet President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The Ukrainian side maintains that minority rights in the Transcarpathian region are guaranteed and does not consider the issue fundamental.
