Hipp Baby Food Poison Was Not Fatal, Experts Find
Austrian authorities have published the results of an expert examination in the case of contaminated HiPP baby food, concluding that the amount of rat poison found in one seized jar would not have been life-threatening.
However, the substance could cause health problems, including bleeding caused by impaired blood clotting, according to Kronen Zeitung.
The investigation is continuing, as the findings apply only to a single jar from Burgenland. Authorities are still searching for another missing pack and are analyzing cases from Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Five tampered jars of baby food have been seized so far.
A 39-year-old former Hipp employee is in custody in connection with the case. His lawyer reiterated after the publication of the report that his client denies guilt and considers himself innocent.
