Trump Sets July 4 Tariff Ultimatum for EU

US President Donald Trump has given the European Union a deadline of 4 July to fulfill its part of a trade deal, warning that the US will significantly raise tariffs if it fails to do so. Trump said he had a "great call" with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Trump said the deal struck at Turnberry, Scotland, envisaged the EU reducing its tariffs to zero. He has previously threatened to raise tariffs on imports of European cars and trucks from 15% to 25%.

"I agreed to give her until our Country’s 250th Birthday or, unfortunately, their Tariffs would immediately jump to much higher levels", Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The two leaders also discussed Iran during the call, agreeing that the country must not acquire nuclear weapons.
