Canadian Priest Offered Euthanasia Twice Despite Objections

A Catholic priest in Vancouver claims he was offered assisted suicide twice by hospital staff, even though they were aware that he, as a clergyman, opposed euthanasia. The case was reported by the B.C. Catholic.

Father Larry Holland, 79, was recovering from a broken hip and said he was shocked by the suggestions, as he was not in the terminal stage of any illness.

The hospital said medical professionals may raise the subject of assisted dying based on their own professional judgment.

Critics say such conversations can put psychological pressure on vulnerable patients. Catholic leaders have described the case as a disturbing example of the evolution of Canada's assisted dying system.
