Ukraine Offers Help After Drone Crash in Latvia

Ukraine is considering sending experts to help strengthen airspace security over the Baltic states following an incident in Latvia where two drones allegedly originating from Ukraine crashed. This was announced by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

According to the minister, there are suspicions that the drones may have deliberately diverted Russian electronic warfare systems towards Latvian territory. If this information is confirmed, Ukraine will apologize to the Latvian side, according to Sybiha. He also said that Kiev is working on measures to minimize the risk of a recurrence of similar incidents.

Four empty oil tanks ended up damaged after Thursday's drone crash in the Latvian city of Rezekne, which lies about 40 kilometers from the border with Russia.

Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have seen a number of similar incidents in recent months. The situation is linked to the intensification of Ukrainian attacks on distant targets in Russia. The Baltic States, which are members of NATO and neighbour Russia, have therefore repeatedly warned of the growing security risks in the region.

Latvia and Lithuania on Thursday called on NATO to strengthen air defenses in the region.
