Trump to Revive Hormuz Operation if Iran Talks Stall
US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States may resume military operations in the Strait of Hormuz if negotiations with Iran fail to make progress. He told reporters that Washington could return to what he called Operation Project Freedom, or an expanded version he referred to as "Project Freedom Plus", the Jerusalem Post reports.
Trump did not specify what the new measures would entail, but noted that Pakistan had asked the United States not to launch the operation. Washington announced only this week that it was suspending its escort mission for commercial ships in the strategic strait.
US Central Command has said American forces disabled two Iranian oil tankers that were allegedly attempting to violate the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The US also carried out retaliatory strikes on Iranian military installations after Iran attacked US vessels in the area with missiles and drones.
